Working for 15min and then never again... (1 reply)

Hi guys,

Great software, apart from "couple" of hickups along the way...

1) Getting the installation to work on XP host is not for faint hearted... Got it working on my 3rd attempt.
2) Once up and running, it was wonderful, well running at low resolution, however not really noticeable.
3) 15 minutes into my DVD video started to skip and then eventually stop. IPad nearly froze, it became unusable... eventually I was able to quit the application, restart IPad... re-run the app... found the DVD again, however when tried to play it was just stuck there. Restarted IPad, restarted PC... no help. Can't get it to go again...

In summary, I really enjoyed it for the 15minutes I ended up being able to watch my DVD... or is the FREE version meant to do this and full work for longer?

DVD player crashes on Play iPad3 (1 reply)

I'm using Win7 and VLC 2.0.1 and an iPad3 to play DVDs. Strange thing I've noted is that when the iPad connects to the comptuer.. the computer spends allot of time trying to read the FLOPPY DISK (yes I use it) drive when I click on Play. When I run the test it gives me the option of testing B and C.. there is no A test. Both of those work fine from what I can tell? Not totally sure what B is supposed to do.. as all it does is open up VLC and plays the DVD. When I click play the iPad reports that its getting the DVD info from the server and then crashes out.

Aside from that the screen doesn't look quite like I would expect it to normally look like.. but I don't know if that's just got to do with the way the iPad3 screen's resolution is compared to the iPad2 and 1.

iPad app crashes when attempting to watch DVD (no replies)

The server installs correctly and TEST B is fine. (Mac Mini - OSX Lion)

The iPad 3 (and original iPad) can see the Mac ok - but doesnt get the DVD info - pressing the 'Play' triange button underneath the black screen results in an immediate crash.

The solution is simple:
Insert DVD
Quit MacDVD program.
Make sure VLC is quit.
Run DVDPlayerServer

Then it will work fine.

But if you do:
Run DVDPlayerServer,
Insert DVD
Quit MacDVD program.

You'll get the crash on the ipad app.

Trapping this crash and reporting a sensible message would help user experience here.

Jerky playback (no replies)

I am getting very jerky playback. I'm running DVDPlayer for iPad on a Mac Mini using OS X 10.6. I had no problem with the iPad app finding the server and playing the DVD. It's just that the video pauses for a split second constantly during playback. I saw another user's comment about this issue on PAL DVD's, however, I'm using NTSC DVD's. I would definitely buy the full app if this could be resolved. Is there anything I can do to enable smooth video playback?

We're having a bit of trouble here. Just installed the app on an iPad2, and the server on an iMac running Lion.

The app is able to detect the server and that it has a disk, but no data regarding the disk.
The Mac DVD player software can read the disk and play it normally, as can VLC, but when we try to run Test B we get a permissions error attempting to read the drive.

I try to turn off subtitles on the latest version of either DVDPlayer or DVDPlayerFree for the iPad and the app crashes. This worked on the prior version. I am running the latest version of the Server on a Mac (10.7.2).

Not sure if this was coincidental but it needs a post.

Dell XPS 420 running Vista. The system was running "Air Video" server when I installed the Floating Cube DVD player server. The PC crashed and would not reboot. Now I'm not sure if this was coincidental but I could not repair the vista system registry files.

Fearing a complete rebuild and lost of data on my hard drive (failed to backup for at least 12 months) I upgraded to a new hard drive and loaded Windows 7.

I installed "Air Video" and this work perfect to my Apple TV. I installed Bonjour and confirm both folders where installed. I then installed DVD player server but this time it would not run saying my Bonjour needs to be reinstalled before DVD player. I did this twice with the same errors.

Is there a conflict between these two servers "Air Video" and "DVDPlayer"

I have everything working under XP, however, when I select the server from the iPad, the iPad stays in "Loading DVD Info" and the PC keeps accessing the floppy drive as tho it's forgotten which drive has the DVD in it. It knows when a DVD is inserted or removed (the icon changes on the iPad). I have tried disabling the floppy drive with no success. Eject Disk does nothing. Test B and C work. Nothing is written to the log.

Hi. I managed to get the server going on my Win7 64bit, (the iPad wouldn't see the PC until after4 I'd rebooted the PC). Unfortunately, the playback seems to pause very slightly once a second. Also, the script output appears in a command window on the PC screen as the movie plays.

I probably wont be able to use this until the pausing has been overcome. Otherwise, it is quite a clever app.

Ah!! The penny dropped. My DVDs are PAL 25 fps. that might be the cause of the pause every second. Do we have a means of correcting that?

Hi there,

I used to use DVD Player successfully in the past but am having absolutely no luck today.

- old version (May 2010) = blue server on iPad but won't play because old version
- new version (downloaded today) = black server on iPad (No DVD Recognised)

I tried this with my iMac and Mac server, with different DVDs, deleted and re-downloaded the iPad app. The current server just doesn't appear to be compatible with the current client.

Is ther anybody around who has an idea how to solve this?

Help would be much appreciated.

I installed free version of the app on my ipad2 and on my windows vista. test b and test c are sucess. But when i open app on ipad nothing shows up on the server list. Infact After 10 seconds my ipad looses wifi connectivity. When i close the app connectivity returns.

Hi, I downloaded the player for iPad and the server files for Mac today (6 May 2011).
The iPad App find the server. Test B to play the DVD on the Mac works.

However, The iPad App fails to read the DVD info:
Title: Cannot be read
Length: 0h0m0s
Size 0.000Gb
Subtitle: disabled
Audio default
Resolution: 640x480 Normal

.... and then the screen fades and then displays an error message:

This occurs for three DVDs that I have tried.
I can send the IFO files for the DVDinfo problem, but what to do about the error message about the version number?

Some other solutions I've worked out for TWO common problems I've seen on the forum. These worked for me.

For the Java "unlinked jdns_sd.dll" error on startup of DVDPlayer Server

FOR TECHNICAL PEOPLE ONLY - PLEASE DON'T ASK ME TO HELP YOU WITH THIS

Check you have jdns_sd.dll in your System32 (x32 bit Windows os) or both System32 & SysWOW64 (if you are x64 bit Windows users). If you have Bonjour SDK installed and you don't have this file, then you could try forcing a re-install of all Bonjour files into your system by going to:
"C:\Program Files\Bonjour SDK\Installer"
Creating a shortcut to the Bonjour.MSI or Bonjour64.MSI depending if you are in a x64 bit os or not. To create a shortcut, right click the file and choose "Create Shortcut" the editing the Target text box so it reads either:

for x32 windows KEEP QUOTATION MARKS
"C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe /fa "C:\Program Files\Bonjour SDK\Installer\Bonjour.msi"

for x64 windows KEEP QUOTATION MARKS
"C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe /fa "C:\Program Files\Bonjour SDK\Installer\Bonjour64.msi"

Run the shortcut. Remember you can always uninstall Bonjour after this proceedure if you are at all worried about forcing an install of all Bonjour files.

You pass all the tests, it looks like it's going to play video, but all you get is a blank screen

For me this was caused by the DVDPlayer Server not correctly detecting my computers IP correctly. I fixed this by making a small change to the dvdplayer.jsp file in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Floating Cube Studios\DVDPlayerServer\webroot2"

Change line 46 from "if(ip ==null) ip =" etc so it reads
if(ip ==null) ip = "h t t p://put your ip here:9090";
*** (PLEASE CHANGE THE IP ADDRESS TO YOUR OWN LAN IP e.g. 192.168.1.22) ***
*** (REMOVE SPACES FROM http) ***

Jerky playback for all PAL DVDs (2 replies)

This app has great potential, and is almost there BUT

I am getting terrible jerky playback on all UK (25fps PAL TV STANDARD) dvds due to this program forcing a 29.97 NTSC framerate convertion on all DVDs, regardless of its origin and original framerate. This jerkyness is very evident on any long pans in films. This is easily confirmed by hovering the mouse over the command window icon on the taskbar if you are in Windows, as the title of it's window reveals the command for the video conversion.

So basically at present this app only really truly supports NTSC DVDs.

When can we expect true worldwide DVD standards support, for this worldwide sold app please? It be great once it's bug fixed.

Please correct me if there is 25fps support.

I am running the latest server and app.

Os: Windows 7 x64
Device: iPad

This a great app, wonderful job on the design! I dont know if this is possible but could we view the dvd/video on multiple devices at the same time? for example while i'm watching it on my iPad also watch it on my iPhone and/or my Mac. If i should be able to do this, let me know.

I've downloaded the new update, the new server, and the video comes out for a few seconds, then it stays stuck on loading movie. I've tried different DVDs, and they all do the same thing. It seemed that the first time I purchased the app, the video worked with minimal stopping. Now after the updates, It has gotten worse.

I've heard about making some minor changes in the server app to change the spoken language of the running DVD? Can somebody explain the procedure to me?

This app needs updates folks - many updates!

At least make the DVD menu accessible, so you can change all the audio, subtitle and chapter settings by yourself.

So please help me with my audio (spoken language) problem - thank you!

At first thanks for develop this app - great idea ! I have search in the forum but I had never found a similar topic.

I have OSX 10.6 and the lastest version of both softwares (DVDPlayserver and app- from the 26.10.2010).
All tests are well done - starting of server and app works too. The app will load also the serverlist and show me my mac.
After clicking on my server the app shows me on the right below corner the following msg:
Loading DVD info.

It will load all along and will never stopp searching or playing the dvd.

A reload of the mac or the ipad will also not help.

I will except a networkproblem because the app shows me the mac as server.
I have changed the DVD also - just for a test - that makes no difference.
I'm not sure whats the problem hope you could help me.

Good evening,

I've got problems with the Mac version of DVDPlayer-server.
Every time I want to play a DVD (wich is played perfectly by VLC stand-alone) the mediaplayer on my iPhone 3GS (iOS4)
disappears after something about half a second.

VLC shuts down when the DVD is playing.
But stand-alone, VLC is working good.

Can you help me to find a solution for my problem?

I installed the server application, everything looks fine (permissions ok, DVD tes OK), but the iPad App does not see the server.

I restarted the app, restarted the iPad, restarted the server but nothing worked.

Q1. I tried running the DVD server and encountered a window with Java Exception error messages.

Bonjour has not been installed correctly. When installing the server, please make sure that Bonjour is installed BEFORE the DVD Player software. The correct sequence of events is shown in: [www.floatingcube.com]

Alternatively, reinstall app or download and install Bonjour separately.

When bonjour has been installed correctly, you should see these two folders.

Q2. I am shown a "Error: Java Server could not be initialized" error message.
Check if Dvd player server is already running. Open task manager, close all DVDPlayerServer and reopen the application again.

Q3. My dvd does not play. And I do not get any response from Test B and Test C.
You may need to change your permission settings for the install folder.
Right click on your DVDPlayerServer folder, select 'Properties' ->go to 'Security' tab -> select 'Edit' button -> choose your current username from 'Group or user names' -> check 'Full Control' -> click 'OK' -> restart app.

Requirements:

OS X 10.6 and above. (10.5 Tiger is not supported. Apple's video streaming tools do not support 10.5.)
iPad running iOS3.2 and above or iPhone running iOS 3.1.3 and above. (iOS4 and iOS5 is supported)

Common Problems:

Q1.Error message shown: Please download the latest version of the server from www.floatingcube.com/DVDPlayer (17 Dec'10).
Ans: This is actually due to router settings that prevent Bonjour from running properly, causing the iPad's incorrect detection of the server. Please try the following list of fixes: [superuser.com]

Q2.Error message shown: "Server Permission Problems"
Ans: Temporary files are written to user/library/Application Support/DVDPlayerServer. This error message is shown when the system is unable to write to this folder. Please check that the system is able to read and write to this folder.

Q3. I cannot install or run the server. Also, the minimized icon does not appear in the top bar.
Ans: Check if you are running on Mac OS X 10.5. Dvd player is not supported currently on Mac OS X 10.5 and we are working on an update for this.

Q4. Test B failed. DVD does not play on my computer when Test B is clicked.
Ans: See [FAQ] Test B failed. Cannot play DVD.

Q5. (Outdated: Test C has been removed as this issue has been permanently fixed with the new DVD Player Server (March 2011). Test C failed. An error message "Cannot write to temporary file" or "Please set permissions on DVD Server" is showed.
